Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Haider Abbas Rizvi on accused the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) of supporting banned outfits in the country.
Responding to the allegations leveled by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Rizvi said that the party had been supporting militant organisations financially in exchange for their services during elections.
Earlier, Sharif had criticised the current government of being a “total failure” and accused the MQM of introducing politics of terrorism in Pakistan and added that it was involved in disturbing peace in Karachi.
Rizvi said that the character of PML-N could easily be judged by the Punjab government’s open support to such groups.
The MQM leader also accused Sharif of promoting state terrorism in Karachi that caused the law and order situation in the city to deteriorate.
He alleged that 15, 000 innocent people had been killed in Karachi on Sharif’s orders, adding that a number of young people in the city were jailed and tortured till they were disabled.
CHAMAN: Pakistan will next month reactivate a biometric computerised system to screen all travellers crossing a key Afghan border terminal, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Wednesday.
Pakistan installed the system on a trial basis in January 2007 to try and control illegal cross-border traffic at Chaman, 100 kilometres from Quetta.
But on the second day, thousands of Afghan tribesmen attacked the border gates, forcing authorities to close the crossing. The protest was against the biometric system, and a Pakistani plan to fence and mine parts of the border.
Further protests saw Pakistan shelve the system.
“We have decided to reactivate the biometric system. I will inaugurate it on November 30, next month,” Malik told reporters in Chaman.
“Both Pakistan and Afghanistan need this system. It is necessary to keep an eye on everyone crossing the border and to stop illegal immigrants,” he added.
The system is designed to replace the previous permit system, by issuing border passes to people after recording their fingerprints, retinas or facial patterns for identification.
The porous Afghan-Pakistani border separates families and tribesmen, but also allows Taliban and al Qaeda-linked militants to move with ease in their fight against US soldiers in Afghanistan and government forces in Pakistan.
Afghanistan and Pakistan have for months traded accusations of responsibility for deadly cross-border attacks further north than Chaman.
KARACHI / DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Nawaz Sharif said that he is in favour of formation of new provinces of Bahawalpur and Southern Punjab.
He said this while addressing a gathering in Dera Ghazi Khan (DGK) on Wednesday.
The PML-N leader said that officials at the highest echelons are involved in corruption and that he needed a change in the country.
He also said that the government of Pakistan has failed to defend the sovereignty of the state and its people. He added that the response after the May 2 raid in Abbottabad is a victory on the United States’ part.
Sharif asserted that the current government is the “most corrupt” in the history of Pakistan and said that he would leave politics if the people want him to leave and he is only in the politics for the people of Pakistan.
He added that he wants to change the fate of Pakistan and its people and has decided to face every difficulty coming his way.
Earlier, residents of Southern Punjab had blamed PML-N of forcefully using the government’s sources to arrange gathering in DGK.
More criticism from Sharif: ‘Govt is a total failure’
Nawaz Sharif lashed out at the government again during a press conference in Sakrand on Wednesday.
Sharif said it is the policies of the present regime that has led to the collapse of state institutions.
Addressing the press conference in interior Sindh, Sharif accused the government of being “a total failure”.
The PML-N claimed that nothing has been done for the betterment of flood affected people in Sindh.
Sharif also accused the government of corruption saying he does not believe the present administration would take any credible measure to stop corruption, since it is being run by the president himself.
Sharif said the president’s main focus has been on saving the government rather than the country.
He also asked for the implementation of the agreements that the country political parties had come up with in the All Parties Conference.
‘Politics of terrorism creation of MQM’
Nawaz Sharif also alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had introduced politics of terrorism in Pakistan and that it was involved in disturbing peace in Karachi.
“The politics of terrorism in Pakistan started with creation of MQM, which also is involved in disturbing peace in Karachi,” Mian Nawaz Sharif said in an interview to a TV channel.
“MQM should now make it clear whether it wants clean politics or terrorism through their armed wings.”
PML-N hatching conspiracy against democracy: Memon
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has alleged that the PML-N chief and his associates are hatching conspiracies against democracy.
Memon said Sharif doesn’t want Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to win a majority in next year’s Senate elections, which is the reason behind the baseless allegations against the government.
